A great success for the Black Panthers Cup, the second edition of the international basketball tournament hosted in the provinces of Lecco, Como and Monza on 19, 20 and 21 April.
More than 60 teams took part, with over 800 players aged between 11 and 19, divided into the categories U13 mixed, U14 girls and boys, U15 girls and boys, U17 girls and boys and U19 girls and boys. Among the Lecco clubs, Basket Costa and Pescate were strongly represented. Masha Maiorano of Costa Masnaga was named best coach in the boys’ section, and Luigino Caponetti best coach in the girls’ section.
Impressive numbers for this second edition. Basket Costa ran the event, with the support of the clubs of Olginate, Pescate, Calolzio and Robbiano.
“We are honoured to host events like this, full of young people. Sport passes on so many values to the young: sport is trust, and learning to rely on others. A school of life for young people,” began Marina Callegari, councillor for sport of the Municipality of Olginate.
“Thank you all for being here. This year too it was a real success,” added Fabrizio Ranieri, president of Basket Costa and organiser.
Also present were Fausto Degrada, president of Fip Lecco, Laura Di Terlizzi, mayor of Nibionno, and Laura Bartesaghi, deputy mayor of Annone.
“A big round of applause for all the kids, the real stars of this event. My wish is to see twice as many athletes and the stands just as full,” added Marco Bugana, sporting director of Basket Olginate and host of the awards ceremony.
The parade of the teams during the awards ceremony and the election of the MVPs were wonderful.
